Accessibility Statement for DataCons
This accessibility statement applies to DataCons: The Digital Database of Late Roman Consular Dates.
Using the Website
We want as many people as possible to be able to use, read and understand the content of DataCons.This means that you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate the website using just a keyboard
- navigate the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader

How accessible this website is
We know some parts of DataCons are not fully accessible:- Maps and graphs content do not have an accessible alternative.
- There are only two colour scheme options we can offer for the interface: a dark mood and a light mood, to accommodate different user preferences and needs.
- Maps and graphs content cannot be accessed using keyboard.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. For example, we do not plan to fix the documentation accessible in the Resource section.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
Maps and heritage items like manuscripts
We sincerely apologise for the unavailability of accessible alternatives for maps and graphs. This may limit the content’s accessibility to users who rely on screen readers. While current accessibility regulations do not require us to provide alternatives for these elements, we are aware of the impact this has and regret any inconvenience caused.
What we are doing to improve accessibility
King’s College London is committed to fixing or providing alternatives for all issues that we are made aware of or are identified by our internal testing and auditing processes.
Activities to improve the accessibility of this website are as follows:

This statement was prepared on 09/05/2024. It was last updated on TBC.This website was tested on 08/05/2024.
Website Accessibility Conformance Evaluation Methodology (WCAG-EM) 1.0 (w3.org) was used to define the test approach and what pages were to be tested. We tested:
- The 15 static pages of the web app
- a selection of 10 dynamically generated pages
